Information from WC Supervisor of Elections
As I had a minute to review things from the State Division of Election, I found that our voter turnout wasn’t as bad as I had thought. Holmes County had a 43% and Washington County had 36.8% turnout – sadly the State average was only 17% and some counties came in with less than 5-10%. (Just thought this may be of interest to our voters.)
Another point I want to try to convey to our voters is about getting the returns in. At the point of closing at each precinct, there is quite a bit of paperwork that must be completed including ballot accounting forms. This makes sure that all ballots whether voted, spoiled or unused are accounted for. These ballots are sealed when they leave the polls and I must count on these reports to find that everything is accounted for until the bags can be opened. Every county has the same accountability – I certainly feel that 2 hours from poll closing time is acceptable though faster reporting would be even better! My point being I wish all of our voters understood that when the polls close – the poll workers don’t simply grab things and walk out the door.
