Prep notes: Thompson to play in FACA all-star game

Arnold middle linebacker Cullen Thompson has been chosen to play for the North squad in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game on Dec. 22 in Sebring.
Thompson was a three-year starter for the Marlins. He finished the season ranked first in total tackles with 190 in 10 games. He is ranked 20th nationally.
Last season he was second-team all state with 142 tackles.
Searles update: Rutherford wrestler Chris Searles still could face discipline from the Florida High School Athletic Association stemming from his ejection on Saturday. Rutherford Athletic Director Kirk Harrell believed the punishment would be no less than two matches. As of Tuesday, Harrell had not heard from the FHSAA on the exact length of the suspension.
Searles was ejected during the championship match of the 130-pound weight class for using what was termed “threatening language” by Rams’ coach Anthony Collier.
Texas preps-Nike: The governing body of public high school sports in Texas is entering a deal to make Nike Inc. its official brand.
The University Interscholastic League has about 1,300 member schools. Chief of Staff Kim Rogers said Wednesday the contract doesn’t require schools to use Nike products, but does offer discounts on uniforms, apparel and footwear.
Rogers says the contract was put out for public bid several months ago. Terms were not disclosed. Nike is based in Beaverton, Ore.
