'Sweetheart specials' at state parks
TALLAHASSEE – In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Florida State Parks, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service today announced a sweet deal for guests looking for a romantic or relaxing escape.
The Sweetheart Special getaway package includes a one-night stay at the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park Lodge, dinner for two at the Wakulla Ball Room restaurant, a boat tour for two on the Wakulla River, and garden entry for two at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, all for just $145.
The offer is good Sunday through Thursday nights throughout January and February 2010. Rooms with two beds are available at the Lodge for a friends night away, and guests can upgrade to a premium room for an additional $30. The offer is good based on room availability, and advance reservation and payments are required.
The Wakulla Springs Lodge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features guest rooms hosting a spacious marble bathroom, walk-in closet and antique furniture. The Ball Room Restaurant overlooks Wakulla Spring and features daily specials and fresh seafood. Boat tours along the Wakulla River, one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world, provide a lush look at some of the local wildlife. Maclay Gardens, a 30 minute drive from Wakulla Springs, offers 28 acres of historical ornamental gardens, where the camellias are in their peak season, and the historic Maclay House overlooking Lake Hall.
