Support the rights of Christians

To the Editor,

America is regarded as a land of the free. Unless that is, you want to pray in school. A nation founded on Christian principles now is banning school prayer. What Americans observe, however, is that is just one little law, and they can still practice religion at home. Unnoticed is the clear violation of the first amendment to the constitution, the 84% of Americans who are Christians and should be able to practice their religion publicly as entitled by the first amendment, and fact that the government already has a surplus power and letting this continue will lead to them telling us what kind of religion to practice.

To begin with, the Supremacy Clause states that the Constitution of the United States and its laws shall be the supreme law of the land. This is upheld by the Supreme Court. The first amendment to the court states “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Therefore, it would not make much sense to ban (prohibit) prayer in school (free exercise thereof). The Bill of Rights (first ten amendments) is in place to protect American citizens from full government occupation, yet allow each and everyday for the government to take away more and more rights.

Secondly, the government and their never-ending want for power seems to be swept under the rug during the media’s badgering of Christians. Do you want to pay for a permit to be able to build on you own land? Yes you do, because thanks to the voters, that legislation is in place. Do you want to have to pay to take a course before you can legally carry a gun around? Yes you do, because thanks to the voters, the legislation is already in place. Do you want to have to give up fifty percent of your income if you make over a certain amount? Once again, yes you do, because that is already the case. The past shows that if you tolerate the government to take away on God given right, or impose legislation to hinder it, then they will carry on and keep taking. That only leaves room for one question: what will you do about it?

What do media, President Obama, and Nancy Pelosi have in common? They all lead you to believe that America is not a Christian nation. I have a problem with this national poll taken in 2010revealed that 84% of Americans report themselves as christens. Also, 52 of the 55 founders of The Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies. On top of this, every session of congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777. So I as why is it ok for the government, but not for the citizens? Thomas Jefferson defined that as tyranny in this quote “Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government, but illegal for the citizenry.”

In conclusion, the clear infringement of the first amendment, the favoring of the 16% of non-Christians over the 84% of Christians, and the power trip of the government is too much for this American. If you feel the same way then you can take a few steps to help put a stop to this. Foremost, spread the word, give facts, and appeal to fellow Christians. Second write you governor, senator, president, congress member, and express you opinion as entitled by the constitution. And last, next time it comes time to vote for a congress member or holder of office, know who you are voting for.
