Miller named among most conservative in House

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jeff Miller (R-Fl-01) was named one of the top conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives today by the National Journal. Miller ranked as the twelfth most conservative Congressman, with a conservative voting score of 92.3%. Miller’s rating is the highest among Members of Congress from Florida.

“I’m honored to be recognized by such a respected publication as one of the top conservatives in Congress,” Miller said.  “I am very proud of my voting record, and I am confident it reflects the values and beliefs of the majority of Northwest Floridians.”

Published since 1969, National Journal is the leading weekly publication on politics, policy and government. Each year, the National Journal publishes a survey of the voting records of each Member of Congress and ranks them accordingly.

A panel of National Journal editors and reporters initially compiled a list of 92 key congressional roll-call votes for 2009 and classified them as relating to economic, social, or foreign policy. Roll-call data was drawn from the Congressional Record and Congressional Observer Publications. The ratings system was first devised in 1981 under the direction of William Schneider, a political analyst and commentator, and a contributing editor to National Journal, who continues to guide the calculation process.
