Posse not supported by tax dollars
This is a correction to the rodeo announcer’s comments about the Holmes County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse at the Bonifay Rodeo on Oct. 7- 9. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Posse is not your tax dollars at work. We are volunteers.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse was formed in April 2010 and is a volunteer non-profit organization and a division of the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, and comes under the strict supervision on the Sheriff of Holmes County, Sheriff Tim Brown.
The purpose of the posse is to assist and represent the sheriff in search-and-rescue activities locally, and in surrounding counties. The posse members are volunteers who desire to make their community safe.
The posse provides parking assistance to local community events such as The Holmes County Fair and the Bonifay Rodeo.
The posse is self-financed through donations and by having a community yard sale.
Posse members are not law enforcement personnel and do not enforce laws. The posse has male and female members and always interested in recruiting new members that are want to be active within the group. The mounted posse continues the grand tradition of the old west by providing volunteer services to the Sheriff and the community.
