Prep roundup (Jan. 6): Mosley boys soccer defeats Leon
TALLAHASSEE - Mosley led 1-0 at halftime as Zach DeVeaux's corner kick was converted by Andrew Beasley on Tuesday in boys high school soccer. The Dolphins went ahead by two goals in the 54th minute as Kyle Adams scored unassisted, and held off a Leon rally for a 2-1 triumph in the District 2-5A match.
Warren Fleer had 11 saves to help protect the win. Mosley, 12-2-1, improved to 3-1-1 in the district. The Dolphins face Rutherford 7 p.m. Friday at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
Mosley won the JV match 4-0. Matt Perles scored two goals and Jeremy Pitts and Jeremie Murray each scored one. Assists were by Jamison Hall, Cole Nycum and Josh Duncan.
Keeper Duncan had five saves for the shutout as the JV
improved to 9-3-1.
Rocky Bayou Christian 5, Port St. Joe 4
NICEVILLE
Alston Burke, Jacob Thompson, Daniel May and Hunter Wall each had one goal for Port St. Joe, but it wasn't enough to win a District 1-2A match.
Parker Harris was the only Tiger Shark with an assist. Keeper Chase Watford made 14 saves.
Port St. Joe (5-6-4, 1-2-1 district) plays Friday at Freeport.
Girls soccer
Bozeman 8, Chipley 0
SAND HILLS
Amber Johnson scored five of Bozeman's goals as the Bucks earned a mercy rule victory after the game was stopped in the 66th minute.
Kirstie Cannon had two goals and four assists. Leann Anglin had two assists and keeper Jessica McAdams had six saves.
Devyn Bowen had one goal.
The Bucks (8-1) play Friday at Rocky Bayou.
Port St. Joe 2, Rocky Bayou Christian 2
NICEVILLE
Angela Canington had 21 saves to ensure Port St. Joe's second tie of the season.
Kayla Minger and Chelsea Flanagan provided goals for Lady Tiger Sharks, who are 7-7-2. Julie Lopez had one assist.
Port St. Joe hosts Rickards on Thursday.
Boys basketball
Covenant 63, Tallavana 51
PANAMA CITY
Justin Schaefer scored 20 points as the Coventant Lions needed a second-half defensive push to pull ahead in the win.
Covenant led by two at halftime, but fell behind by five in the third quarter, Coach Robb Moss said. The Lions pulled ahead after putting on a full-court press that led to steals and easy baskets.
Sophomore Ben Dobernig had 19 points and 18 rebounds. Andrew Cummings had 10 points and three steals.
Covenant (9-6, 4-1 Panhandle Christian Conference), plays Victory Christian Academy in Sneads on Thursday.
The Lions JV (6-3, 4-1) won 60-21 and was led by Parker Sheffield's 14 points and Gray Whiting's 11.
West Gadsden 79, Wewahitchka 75
GREENSBORO
Wewahitchka couldn't hold a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Christian Owens had 26 points to lead the Gators, who led for most of the final quarter before West Gadsden won with a nine-point turnaround.
Billy Naylor and Chris Peak each scored 14 points. Josh Mitchell had 11.
The Gators (3-6, 1-2 District 3-2A) play at Port St. Joe on Friday.
Port St. Joe 75, Blountstown 51
PORT ST. JOE
Raheem Clemons had 20 points as the Tiger Sharks improved to 11-3. Willie Quinn had 12 points and Roman Quinn and Calvin Pryor 10 apiece for Port St. Joe. Drew Brazzel and Jimmy Jackson each had 13 points for the Tigers.
Blountstown won the JV game.
Port St. Joe hosts Wewahitchka on Friday.
Bozeman 59, Altha 45
ALTHA
Chase Walker had 16 points, Matt Walker 14 and Vincent Ventura 13 as Bozeman improved to 6-5, and 2-3 in District 2-2A. Altha was led by Ethan Byler's 26 points.
Nick Gutierrez had 18 points as Bozeman won the JV game 38-34. For Altha, Roger Will had 19 points. The Bucks JV is 2-10.
Bozeman plays at Liberty County on Thursday.
Cottondale 61, Chipley 44
CHIPLEY
Marcus Humose had 22 points and Jacob Herring 11 as the Hornets evened their record at 8-8. Cottondale will play Friday at Graceville.
Girls basketball
PDL 45, Poplar Springs 29
POPLAR SPRINGS
Jasmine Flock had 20 points and Gypsy Griffin 9 for Ponce de Leon. Flock added 13 rebounds.
PDL hosts Jay on Thursday in District 1-2A.
Bozeman 49, Altha 14
ALTHA
Morgan Gilbert scored 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Dee Dee Kenney had 18 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and eight steals for the Bucks in the rout.
Sharlyn Smith led Altha with six points.
Bozeman (9-3, 3-2 District 2-2A) plays at Freeport on Friday.

Girls basketball
Chipley 82, Vernon 15
VERNON
Chipley took control from the opening tip while improving to 8-7. Sherina Gonzalez had 25 points for the Tigers, Thera Robinson 23 and Tara Thomas 14.
JV boys basketball
Vernon 52, Chipley 31
VERNON
Anthony had 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and Tap Green had 14 points to lead Vernon.

| I am glad to see that law enforcement is doing something about the illegal immigrant problem locally. We need to supoport this every way we can. I am tired of the they just want to support their famil and they just do jobs Americans won't do lines. They illegally came into our country and that makes them illegal. Their are plenty of jobs south of the border that Americans won't do! |
