From The Heart: A Mothers Crown

My brother called earlier this week asking me to send him a short video wishing our mom a happy Mother's Day, which he will edit in with other videos from him, my sister and other children of mothers in their church to be played on Mother's Day Sunday. In my video I will be saying a very simple, "Happy Mother's Day to the best mom I ever had, I love you, from your number one son." My brother and sister will get a kick out of "the number one son" and of course mom will get a kick out of "the best mom I ever had", because, of course she is the only mom I have ever had.

As I begin to realize that "Mother's Day" will soon be here, I really do realize I have been blessed with two very special ladies in my life, my mom and the mother of my children. They are very special because they chose to be mothers and raise their children unashamedly with unconditional love teaching them by example to love God in a world where it is more popular to be self centered.

As I begin to think about this world as it is and how that I have been blessed with these two very special ladies, and surrounded by many more through my church affiliations, I am thankful because I realize that not all women live their lives to bring glory and honor to God, but follow the selfish paths of this world. If you have wonderful ladies in your life, such as I have, I hope you realize that you are also blessed.

We are blessed because they have realized that it is one of the greatest honors in the world to be crowned with the title "Mom" or "Mother." And they have taken this crown and worn it with pride as they have invested their lives into boys and girls who have grown or are growing up and will someday call them "Blessed" (Proverbs 31) because of the life that they have given and shared.

To all the truly beautiful women who understand the heartaches, headaches and hardships that come from being a mom, but also know the great joy of being a mom who loves and cares for a child through bad times and good times, I want you to know you deserve every star in your crown and there is a nation of children just like me who say "Thank you, we love you." Thank you for believing and receiving the gift of life from the Almighty God and for believing in the right for the child to live.

Thank you, to my mom, who was only fifteen when she married my dad, and ten months later they allowed God to be God and give me life, a life they continue to influence with their love and encouragement. We laugh often and I give them a hard time because they were able to do and afford many more things for and with my younger sister and brother who came along many years later. But the truth is, I had all a boy in Chicago needed, I knew I was loved.

Thank you to Judy, my wife, for investing her life in mine and our three sons. And a great big "Thank you" goes out to all you wonderful moms who have sacrificed by loving and investing your life in someone else, whether by natural birth or adoption, you have earned the crown of motherhood. May you wear it proudly, for we are proud of you. Happy Mother's Day and may we not fail to tell you all year long you are loved, because you are special.
