NFCH holds second annual Miss Summertime Beauty Pageant

CHIPLEY – Northwest Florida Community Hospital’s Skilled Nurses Unit held their second annual Miss Summertime Beauty Pageant on July 29.

“It was a huge success and served over 100 people with standing room only,” said Deborah Brown, Activity Director for the Skilled Nurses Unit. “We hold the Miss Summertime Beauty Pageant to maintain a sense of self worth and value, to encourage involvement with family and community and create a sense of belonging.”

The guest speaker and emcee was Judge Colby Peel; judges were: President/CEO of Community South Credit Union Jan Page, Intervention Services for Anchorage Children Society LuAnn Dean, Community Educator for Covenant Hospice Terri Glass, and Head of Administrative Services for North Florida Community Hospital Diane Blount.

Crowning Queens were: North Florida Miss Heart of America Paige Sellers, Miss Florida Palms Carly Wilson, Miss Florida Tropical Palm Victoria Steverson and Little Miss Florida Tropical Palm Gabrielle Steverson; scores were tallied by Lynn Zanetic and Tracy Walker; songs for contestants 1-11 were by Amy Allen from Radiology, songs for contestants 11-22 were by Doreen Freer and Gloria Brown, Activity Assistant, also sang.

Winners of Miss Summertime 2010 were: Miss Congeniality: Mandy Sapp; Prettiest Hair: Ethel Nelson; Prettiest Dress: Joyce Agee; Prettiest Smile: Doris Keel; Third Place: Mandy Sapp; Second Place: Nellie Monk; First Place: Nina Mcleod; and Miss Summertime 2010: Joyce Agee.

Brown said the best part of the event was being able “to see the women’s faces light up and how they felt good about themselves.”

“Our goal is to provide a high standard of care while maintaining a connection with the community by holding community involved events,” she said. “We look forward to each event and we appreciate the communities continual support to Northwest Florida Community Hospital and to the residents of the Skilled Nurses Unit.”
