Alice G. Bruner

Alice Gary Bruner, 90, died Sept. 8 at Washington County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chipley. She was born July 30, 1917, in Jackson County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Gary; her husband of 60 years, Franklin Bruner; five siblings, George Gary, Troy Gary, Coy Gary, Gladys Morgan and Edna Luker; and a son-in-law, Doug Sullivan.

She and her husband owned and operated Bruner Egg Farm at Orange Hill for many years. She was retired as a Green Thumb Employer of Washington County Health Department. In addition, she had worked several years at the Washington County Council on Aging.

Bruner was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 58 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Sullivan of Chipley; one sister, Vera Hallford of Geneva, Ala., a first cousin, J.D. Cumbaa, two grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Services were held Sept. 11 at Blue Lake Baptist Church with the Rev. (Dr.) Alcus Brock officiating.

Burial was in Piney Grove Baptist Cemetery in Jackson County with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.

James Lunsford

James Ronald “Ronnie” Lunsford, 52, of Graceville died Sept. 6 from injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident. He was born Sept. 30, 1945, in Panama City.

Ronnie, affectionately known as “J.R.,” graduated from Graceville High School in 1963. He was an independent insurance agent for more than 44 years and was Insurance Agent of the Year with CSO in 1998.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially in the mountains. He was a Seminole fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and six pets.

He was preceded in death by his father, M.L. Lunsford, and a son, James Ronald Lunsford Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Saundra Lunsford, and his mother, Betty Lunsford, both of Graceville; children, Donna Williams and husband, L.B., of Panama City, Brian Cannington and wife, Amanda, of Waycross, Ga., Carlie Kokoska and husband, Josh, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Ben Cannington and wife, Teresa, of Cantonment; two brothers, Donnie Lunsford of Graceville, Terry Lunsford of Sanford; a sister, Brenda Morris of Graceville; mother-in-law, Audrey Lee Davis of Graceville, five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral was held Sept. 9 at First Baptist Church of Graceville with the Rev. Tim Hall and D. Wiley Richards officiating.

Burial was in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home of Gaceville directing.

Newt F. King

Newt F. King, 72, of Marianna died Sept. 6 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. A native of Bascom, he was a retired Florida Highway Patrol Trooper.

He also worked for the Jackson County Building Department, and was most recently employed with Rahal-Miller Chevrolet and Cadillac and Marianna Toyota.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marianna and the Fisherman Sunday School Class.

King was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Bessie Winget King; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Emma Duce; a brother-in-law, Robert A. Moline, and a nephew, Mark Moline.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Duce King of Marianna; a son, Wayne King and partner, Kazanobu Akutsu of West New York, N.J.; two daughters, Lynn King of Taylor, Ala., Rachel Ferraris and husband, Scott, of Warner Robins, Ga.; two bothers, Larry King and wife, Nell, of Two Egg, John King and wife, Pat, of Bascom; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Moline of Marianna and Lo Watts of Jacksonville; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Donnie and Patricia Duce of Chipley, Gayle and Patsey Duce of Marianna, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was held Sept. 9 at Maddox Chapel with the Rev. Michael Petty officiating.

Burial followed at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna, directing.

Jessie L. Burch

Jessie Lee Burch, 88, of Grand Ridge died Sept. 8. She was born Aug. 11 in Calhoun Country, the youngest of 17 children.

Burch was retired as a psychiatric aide with Florida State Hospital. She was a faithful member of Grand Ridge Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruby Burch, and two sons, Ruby Jerome Burch and William Kenneth Burch.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Burch and James Blount of Grand Ridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Marvin and Geneva Burch of Chattahoochee, Benjamin Layfette and Gwen Burch of Grand Ridge; three sisters, Juanita Johnson of Winter Haven, Addie Lee Hiers of Blountstown and Flora Strand of Lakeland; one brother, Wade Goodman of Blountstown, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was held Sept. 11 at Grand Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Juno Douglas, Michael Fox and Daryl Simmons officiating.

Burial was in Cypress Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna, directing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee.

Larry Butler Sr.

Larry E. Butler Sr., 66, died Sept. 6 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. He was born Jan. 10, 1941, in State College, Pa., to Samuel and Dorothy (Barner) Butler. He had lived in the Washington County area since moving from Pennsylvania nine years ago.

Butler was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Butler.

Survivors are his wife, Bonnie L. Butler; three sons, Larry E. Butler of Julian, Pa., Robert E. Butler and wife, Mary, Henry J. Butler and fiancee, Ashley, all of Fort Walton; four daughters, Lucy M. Goodman and fiance, Rodney, of Chipley, Linda J. Doran and husband, Rodney, of Chipley, Hazel J. Dunklebarger and husband, Walter, of Columbus, N.J., Sandy M. Chamberlain and husband, Freddrick, of Fort Walton; five brothers, Richard Butler and wife, Kathy, and Samuel Butler, all of Milesburg, Pa., Ron Butler and wife, Linda, and Gary Butler of Howard, Pa., Terry A. Butler Sr. and wife, Rhonda, of Milesburg; four sisters, Sue Pletcher and Linda Chornister, both of Loch Haven, Pa., Sandra Butler of Julian, Pa., Patsy Albright and husband, Bob, Mary Caldwell and husband, John, all of Bellefonte, Pa., and 14 grandchildren.

Virginia Dilmore

Virginia Mae Dilmore, 41, died Sept. 8 at her residence. She was born Oct. 29, 1965, in Donaldsville, Ga., to Billy and Vada (Finuff) Dilmore.

Dilmore was a life-long resident of Jackson County. She worked as a nurses’ aide, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her father, Billy Dilmore of Chipley; and three brothers, Billy Dilmore and Virgil Dilmore, both of Chipley and Jonathan Dilmore of Panama City.

A memorial service was held Sept. 7 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Clinton Clemmons officiating, and Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.

Charles M. Kelley

Charles Michael Kelley, 29, of Bonifay died Sept. 7 as the result of an auto accident. He was born Oct. 2, 1977, in Avon Park.

Kelley was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lennie Jane Lomneck, and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Stone.

Survivors include his mother, Janney Faye Lomneck Lyles, and fiance, Ronnie Lee Brown, of Lake Placid; his fiancee, Jennifer Hube of Bonifay; three daughters, Savannah Shelby, Breanna Nicole Hube and Hailey Chienne Hube, all of Bonifay; two sisters, Heather Ann Mann and husband, Allen, of Lake Wales, Patricia Beth Smith and husband, Joey, of Avon Park; grandparents, Christi and Ronnie Mathis of Bonifay; an uncle, David Charles Lomneck and wife, Angel, of Okeechobee.

Memorialization was by cremation. A memorial service was held Sept. 11 at Winterville Assembly of God Church with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.

Bessie Lou Fowler

Bessie Lou Hinson Fowler, 91, of Marianna died Sept. 10 at Courtyard Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Marianna. She was born April 28, 1916, in Graceville to Alex Bussey and Minnie Pearl (McGriff) Hinson.

Of the Methodist faith, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chipley. She was past president of the United Methodist Woman and her Sunday school class. She taught a Sunday school class for children, and was very active in the church.

She also was a member of the garden club, woman’s club, and Eastern Star.

Fowler was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland Charles Fowler; brothers, Wallace Evert Hinson, Alex Bryant Hinson, Edwin Bussy Hinson and Charles Buford Hinson; sisters, Addie Laura Hinson Tubell, Annie Bell Hinson Taylor, Bertha Marie Hinson Moore, Johnnie McGriff Hinson Dennis, and Pearl Adell (Tootsie) Hinson Manley.

Survivers include two daughters, Jean Fowler Carlton of Orange Park, Linda Fowler Cox and husband, Alan Henley Cox, of Marianna; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was held Sept. 13 at First United Methodist Church in Chipley with the Revs. Pierce Moore and Jerry May officiating.

Brown Funeral Home of Chipley was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Chipley or Hospice of Marianna, FL.

Robert Holloway

Robert Irvin Holloway, 55, of Bonifay died Sept. 8 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. He was the son of the late Robert Holloway and Clara (Delk) Huber.

Surviving, in addition to his mother who now lives in Winter Haven, are three sons, Jason Holloway of Ponce de Leon, Gary Holloway of Immokalee, and Robert Holloway of Lehigh Acres; two sisters, Peggy Garcia of Bonifay and Barbara Paul of Bonifay, and two grandchildren.

Memorialization was by cremation with memorial services to be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Sims Funeral Home, Inc. of Bonifay.

William L. Jones

William Larry (Gator) Jones, 61, of Westville died Sept. 9 at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay. He was the son of the late William Jones and the late Virginia (Morrison) Jones.

Jones served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include one daughter, Tanya Cook of Bonifay; one brother, Kenny Jones of Westville, and two granddaughters.

Funeral was held Sept. 12 at Camp Ground Church.

Burial was in the church cemetery in Westville with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.

Charlie Maggard

Charlie C. Maggard, 73, of Bonifay died Sept. 10 at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay. He was the son of the late Samuel Maggard and the late Lou (Sturgill) Maggard.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Ruth (Spivey) Maggard; two daughters, Vanessa Carnley and Robin Anderson, both of Bonifay; three sons, Michael Maggard of Caryville, Charlie C. Maggard Jr. and Scott Maggard, both of Bonifay; three sisters, Mabel Vanover of Sevierville, Tenn., Margaret Cooper of Los Angeles, Calif,, and Peggy Payne of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Bobby B. Maggard of Clarksville, Tenn., Samuel J. Maggard and Franklin D. Maggard, both of Columbia City, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Lakeview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Weeks officiating and Sims Funeral Home, Inc. of Bonifay directing.

Memorials may be made to Lakeview United Methodist Church building fund, 3007 Griffen Lane, Bonifay, FL 32425.

James L. McNeal

James “Jim” Lawrence McNeal, 76, of Westville died Sept. 12 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was born June 16, 1931, in Gulfport, Miss., to the late Percie Earlick and Florene Tidwell McNeal.

McNeal retired from the U.S. Navy in 1967 with 22 years of service. He received the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a NASCAR short track race car driver and a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. In the years after military retirement, he was self-employed as a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gloria McNeal Wright.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Edwards McNeal of Westville; two sons,. James E. McNeal of Westville and Edwin L. McNeal and wife, Ann, of Dalles, Oregon, and eight grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 15 at Hickory Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Padgett and Chris Nelson officiating.

Burial, with military honors, was in the church cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.

David H. Stanton

David Harold Stanton, 46, of Panama City died Sept. 13 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was an employee of the Juvenile Justice Department.

Stanton served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Stanton.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Sue (Holmes) Stanton; mother, Mary Tice of Chipley; one daughter, Tara Alaine Carrigg of Panama City; one son, Michael David Stanton of Panama City; two sisters, Ruby Moon and Ruth Ann Moore, both of Bonifay.

Funeral was held Sept. 17 at Westville United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Wilford Carter and Rodney Capps officiating.

Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery in Westville with Sims Funeral Home of Bonifay in charge of arrangements.

Hazel B. Still

Hazel B. Still, 85 of Graceville died September 12 at West Florida Medical Center in Pensacola.

She was born in Webb, Ala. Sept. 7, 1922 to the late Franklin Timothy and Lena Bell McCord Barber. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Ressie Wade Barber and husband, Clifford Allen Still.

She is survived by her son Robert Dorch of Pensacola; daughter, Sarah Groover of Graceville; two step-daughters, Joan Walker and husband Joey of Baker, Gina Bollinger and husband Paul of St.Louis, MO; two sisters, Betty Bruner of Chipley, Addie Jenkins of Tallahassee; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.”

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 14, at the Chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Bruner officiating. Burial followed in Piney Grove FWB Cemetery in the Duncan community of Chipley with James & Lipford Funeral Home directing.

Janice Calloway

Janice Lovell Calloway, 76, of Malone died Sept. 12. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of Friendship Baptist Church in Malone.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Cecil Calloway.

Survivors include four children, Myra Messick and husband, Dane, of Lynn Haven, Danny Calloway and wife, Jan, of Marianna, Chuck Calloway and wife, Angela, of Albany, Ga., Kim Calloway and wife, Sharron, of Malone; one brother, Harold Miller and wife, Virginia, of Lady Lake; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral was conducted Sept. 15 at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary French and Dr. Harry Kinchen officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, directing.
