Holmes County girls go to 2-1 with easy win over Bozeman

BONIFAY – The Holmes County Lady Blue Devils jumped out to a 42-0 lead before Bozeman scored its first bucket and cruised to a 69-10 win Friday night.

The Lady Devils took a 28-0 first-quarter lead helped along by five baskets off of steals and held the visitors scoreless until 3:12 left in the first half, garnering a 44-2 lead at the break.

Holmes County Coach Devin Miles used his whole bench and aired the ball out in the second half with the clock running all the way.

Summer Beasley came off the bench to lead the Lady Devils with 12 points, while Brandi Bruebaker had 11. Jordan Belser scored 8. Courtney Batchelor led Bozeman with 6 points and Allie Safrentes had 4 points.

The Lady Devils opened the season with a win over perennial playoff contender Cottondale 51-34 at home Monday, and lost to South Walton 81-55 Thursday. Miles said he got his bench into the game when South Walton began stretching its lead and followed the same course of action Friday night.

“We’re young and we’re little but we are going to get better,” Miles said. The Lady Devils were only down 34-27 at the half against the Lady Seahawks and were only down 51-40 before South Walton put the game away in the fourth quarter.
