The 2008 Football Rewind: District 1-1B (See Archives)

The first in a weekly look back at last season

District 1-1B played out like it normally did. The battle was for second place behind perennial powerhouse Tallahassee FAMU.

And like in year's past, the annual battle between Graceville and Cottondale decided which team finished second and would advance to the postseason.

But unlike in year's past, the 2008 meeting wasn't close.

Graceville's Antrell Wright rushed for 196 yards and five touchdowns on 21 carries in leading Graceville to a 50-14 rout at Cottondale. Leron Hoover gave Graceville and early lead with a 2-yard run, and the Tigers never looked back.

Graceville went on to finish the regular season 8-2, with its only district loss to FAMU Oct. 24 by a 22-12 margin. Cottondale struggled and finished 3-5. Monticello Aucilla Christian was fourth in the district and Tallahassee John Paul II was winless in the district and was last.

Graceville rallied from a 16-0 deficit in the regional opener only to fall to Jacksonville Eagle's View 22-16 in overtime.

FAMU went on to beat Jacksonville Arlington Country Day and Eagle's View before falling to South Daytona Warner Christian in the state semifinal.

Next week: A look back at District 1-1A.
