PETA on Earth Day
Earth Day is April 22. By eating only vegan foods, at least for the day, you can help combat climate change, curb pollution, and conserve resources. Here’s some food for thought:
* It takes more than 4,000 gallons of water per day to produce food for a meat-eater; only 300 gallons of water a day are needed to produce food for a vegan.
* According to the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, climate change mitigation costs could be reduced by 80 percent if everyone ate a vegan diet.
* A 10-acre farm can support 60 people by growing soy, 24 people by growing wheat, or 10 people by growing corn—but only two by raising cattle. It takes about 700 calories worth of feed to produce just one 100-calorie piece of beef
* More than one-third of all the fossil fuels produced in the U.S. are used to raise animals for food.
* The EPA says that factory farms pollute our waterways more than all other industrial sources combined.
See www.GoVeg.com for more information and a free vegetarian starter kit. Have a happy meat-free Earth Day!
