Obituaries 10-10-7

Blondell Justice

Blondell Justice, 87, of Bonifay died Sept. 30 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Justice; one son, Fred Justice; a brother, Odell Whitehead, and sister, Sarah Thomas.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret and Kener Love, and Martha Marrell, all of Bonifay; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ouida Justice, Edward and Ernestine Justice, all of Bonifay; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Doug Griffith of Fort Walton; a daughter-in-law, Trecy Justice of Bonifay; nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral was Oct. 3 at East Pittman Church in Holmes County with the Revs. Hubert Foskey, Herman Sellers and Westley Adams officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with Bottoms Garden Chapel of Geneva, Ala., in charge of arrangements.

Kina L. Worley

Kina Louise Worley, 75, of Vernon died Sept. 16 at Bay Medical Hospital in Panama City. She was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Chipley to Bud and Nancy (Pitts) Long.

Worley had lived in Chipley since 1993, moving there from Tampa. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, David O. Worley of Vernon; two daughters, Nancy Gayle Oswell and Lillie Elaine Blattner, both of Vernon; three sisters, Marie Hayes of Chipley, Bibline Barefield of Alabama and Mathel McFadden of Wausau, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Brown Funeral Home of Chipley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Martha Collins

Martha Rudine Collins, 76, of Chipley died Oct. 1. She as born Nov. 16, 1930, in Houston County, Ala., to Zimmery and Laura (Swan) Barnes.

She had lived in Chipley for the past 53 years, moving there from Crestview. She was of the Assembly of God faith.

Survivors include three sons, Curtis Thompson and wife, Mary, of Thief River Falls, Minn., Lloyd Collins and wife, Kathy, of Chipley, Reggie Collins and wife, Donna, of Anniston, Ala.; one daughter, Charlotte Haddock and husband, Herbert, of Paxton, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Oct. 5 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ricky Lovett officiating.

Burial was in Lakeview Methodist Church Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing.

Myrtle Howard

Myrtle G. Howard, 87, of Marianna died Sept 29 at her home. She was born in Jackson County and had spent her whole life in that area.

Howard loved the Lord and was Baptist by faith. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Alliance, and the Order of the Eastern Star 134.

She was employed with the Jackson County School Board where she worked in the cafeteria and drove a school bus. “Aunt” Myrtle loved to fish and grow her own garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preacher Howard; a son, William Thomas Howard; a grandson, Todd Howard; her parents, Thomas and Rhoda Johnson Gilbert; five brothers, Bill, Earl, Jack, John “Boy,” and Stubb Gilbert; and a sister, Ruby Wiggins.

Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Pat Workman of Marianna and Lynda Godwin of Washington County, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was held Oct. 3 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Alliance with the Revs. Ed Masterson, Roland Rabin and Gino Mayo officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, directing.

Memorial donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Alliance.

Nola Mae

Herrington

Nola Mae Herrington, 92, a native of Westville, died Sept. 29 at Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva, Ala. She was born July 8, 1915, to William T. and Eighty Ann Colvin Grant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Herrington Sr.; several brothers and sisters; three grandsons, Stephen Enfinger, Carl Faulk and Phillip Faulk; and one great-grandson, Zachery Koehler.

Survivors include two sons, Loren Herrington Jr. and Anthony Herrington, both of Westville; four daughters, Menthia Faulk and husband, Charles, Nola Enfinger and husband Wilton, Wilda Limerick and husband, Joe, all of Pace, Sally Lathan and husband, Sonny, of Holt; one sister, Ottis Yates, and one brother, Lester Grant, both of Westville; 15 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 3 at Hickory Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Padgett and Larry Sweat officiating.

Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Holmes County with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.

Shelvie Oswalt

Shelvie Jean Hornsby Oswalt of Graceville, 68, died Sept. 27. She was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Tallassee, Ala., in Tallapoosa County, daughter of James W. and P. Gertrude Hornsby.

She had been a resident of Graceville since 1991 when her husband became vice president for academic affairs at the Baptist College of Florida. The couple had served for 40 years at churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. She also ministered with her husband at William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss., and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

She was a homemaker, taught at Ganus Elementary School in New Orleans, and worked for the Alabama Baptist Convention in Montgomery.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry E. Oswalt; two children, Deborah E. Jones and husband, Brent, David M. Oswalt and wife, Stephanie; three sisters, Kitty Jeanette Rutland, Rosa Azalea Foshee and husband, Wayne, and Carol Ann Lynn; two sisters-in-law, Rita Oswalt and Peggy Oswalt; three grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral was held Sept. 30 at Damascus Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Windsor officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.

Annie Justice

Annie Pearl Justice, 64, of Alford died Sept. 28 in Panama City. She was born in Fountain on April 27, 1943, to Allen and Pearl (Dixon) Taylor but had been a life-long resident of Alford.

She was of the Holiness faith and was a member of the Light House Holiness Church.

Justice was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Romeo Perez of Panama City.

Survivors include her husband, Monroe Justice of Compass Lake; three daughters, Anne Miller and husband, Don, of Chipley, Mary Ann Perez, `Susie Leisure and husband, Forrest, all of Panama City; one brother, Joe Taylor of Bainbridge, Ga.; two sisters, Dorothy Finch of Fountain and Linda Davis of Compass Lake, and nine grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 4 in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Sam Kent and Nolan Kent officiating.

Cremation followed with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley in charge of arrangements.

Brian Freeman

Brian Randall Freeman, 30, of Caryville died Sept. 30 at his home. He was born Jan. 21, 1977, in Lebanon, Tenn.

Freeman was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mildred Freeman.

Survivors include his father, Phillip Freeman Sr., and stepmother, Blondell, of Caryville; mother, Susan Josey of North Carolina; brother, Phillip Wayne Freeman Jr. of California; sister, Lori Catherine Hoskins and husband, Staff Sgt. Eric Hoskins of North Carolina; one niece, Katlyn Hoskins; a nephew, Hunter Hoskins; several aunts and uncles.

Services were held Oct. 3 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Herndon officiating.

Burial was in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.

Rev. Perley Safford

Rev. Perley G. Safford, 88, of Marianna died Oct. 2. A native of Maine, he moved to Florida in 1946 while serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a graduate of Stetson University in Deland and had been a Southern Baptist pastor in central Florida for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Slone Safford in February 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Safford King and husband, the Rev. Lonnie King, of Marianna, Faith Wasserkrug of Hemet, Calif.; one son, the Rev. Richard D. Safford and wife, Vernette, of Port Aransas, Texas; two brothers, Frank Safford of Jacksonville and Kenneth Safford of Manchester, N.H., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was held Oct. 6 at Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Canada, and the Revs. Richard Safford and Lonnie King officiating.

Burial, with military honors by Sneads American Legion Post 241, was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, directing.

Memorials may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund or the Florida Baptist Children’s Home.

Doris Jean

Cleveland

Doris Jean Cleveland, 84, of Chipley, died Oct. 1, in Chipley. She was born on June 15, 1923 in Hart County, Ga. to Clarence E. and Lilly (Carnes) Welborn. She was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Chipley.

Cleveland was preceded in death by a brother, Mack Welborn, a sister, Faye Welborn Bobo and a grandson, Kevin Williams.

Survivors include: two sons; Hugh and wife Mary Cleveland, Cantonement, Tom Cleveland, Brunswick, Ga.; three daughters, Camelia Williams, Pensacola, Patricia Jean Cleveland, Morris, Ala. and Jan Cleveland Morris, Hartwell, Ga;. five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at the First Baptist Church in Chipley with the Rev. Michael Orr officiating.

Graveside services and interment followed Oct. 5, in the Elmhurst Northside Cemetery in Elberton, Ga. with Brown Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Benevolence Fund of the First Baptist Church, Post Office Box 643, Chipley, Fla. 32428 or to the Council on Aging, Chipley, Florida. 32428.

Joseph Glenn Cox

Joseph Glenn Cox, 53, of Chipley died Sept. 28, in Rockford, Ill. He was born on Aug. 4, 1954 to James and Katherine (Yager) Cox in Columbus, Ga. He was married to his wife Debbie for 28 years. He was a veteran of Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the Amvets, in Chipley. A truck driver by profession. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include: His children, Katherine (Beth) Caster, Ft. Lewis, Wash., Adams Thompson, Camber, Ark., a step-daughter, Becky Bridges, Joe Cox, David Cox and Tim Cox, all of Chipley; brothers, Edward Cox, Birmingham, Ala., Jimmy Cox, Box Springs, Ga. and Michael Cox, Anderson, SC; sisters, Mary Adams and Glenda Backman both of Charleston, SC.

Graveside services were held Oct. 5, in the Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Earnest Dupree officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing.

Donna Mae Walters

Donna Mae Walters, 50, of Chipley died Oct. 4, at Bay Medical Center, Panama City.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1956 in Panama City to Joseph B. and Helen (Cherry) Walker. She had lived in Chipley for the past 23 years. Walters was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Walker.

Survivors include her father, Joseph B. Walker, Parker; her husband,Steve Matthew Walters, Sr.; a son, Steve Matthew Walters, Jr.; daughter, Dawn Marie Spooner, all of Chipley; two brothers, Joe Wayne Walker and Don Dixon Walker both Panama City; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 6 at the funeral home chapel, Highway 77, Chipley with the Rev. Tully Hunter officiating. Burial followed in the Double Pond Cemetery at Bradford Bridge, Wausau with Brown Funeral Home directing.

James Orrie Blackburn, Jr.

James “Jim” Orrie Blackburn, 80, died Oct. 3 in Tallahassee. A native of Chipley and former resident of Atlanta, he had resided in Tallahassee since 1960. He was a Thirty Third Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and Marzuq Temple, a member and longtime treasurer of the Leon Co. Pharmacy Association, a member of J. Edwin Larson, Masonic Lodge 361 F & AM. He was a member of the FSU Varsity Club and lettered in a Varsity Sport, an avid FSU fan and a member of the Seminole Boosters. He served in the Army and the Navy during WWII and the Korean War and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death was his first wife, Mary H. Blackburn.

He is survived by his wife, Libby Blackburn of Tallahassee; three sons, Jeb Blackburn and wife Karen of Tallahassee, Andy Blackburn and wife Lisa of Marietta, Ga. and Sam Blackburn of Marietta and one stepson, Chip Huggins and wife Sally of Tallahassee; one stepdaughter, LuAnn Huggins of Tallahassee; a sister, Miriam and Dr. Wesley Grace of Port St. Joe; four grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren, of Tallahassee.

Services were Oct. 5 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Interment followed in Oakridge Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Chapel, Tallahassee in charge of arrangements.

Alice Hazel Haddock

Alice Hazel Haddock, 83, of Marianna died Oct. 2, at Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

A native of Henderson, N.C., she had lived in Jackson County for the past 60 years and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Houston Haddock.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Langston and husband Wayne of Tallahassee, Cheryl Haddock of Alpharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert Finch and wife Delores of Texas, Charles Finch and wife Leigh of Henderson, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 5. at Maddox Chapel with Fr. Norman Bray officiating, burial followed at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, James & Sikes Funeral Home directing.

John Earl Hobbs

John Earl Hobbs,76, of Bonifay, died Oct. 1, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. He served in the Marine Corps. He was the son of the late Mrs. Archie (Rains) Hobbs.

He is survived by two sons, Travis Hobbs of Dade City and Monty Hobbs of Bonifay; a sister, Minnie Ruth Bowlin of Huntsville, Ala. and four grandchildren.

Memorialization was by cremation with memorial services to be held later.

Arrangements were by Sims Funeral Home, Bonifay.
