Prichard gives presentation before WCSB
CHIPLEY – Future Farmers of America Florida president and Chipley High School Alumni Caitlyn Prichard went before the Washington County School Board during their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening with her FFA presentation that she will be giving during the National FFA Convention coming up in Indianapolis, IN.
The title was “Where Were You?” and dealt with issues about agricultural warfare and what it means to America.
She said most of her time would be spent going from school to school to help better improve their organizations, going to banquets giving presentations. She has two “exciting events” coming up; marching in the Rose Bowl Parade and a trip to China for an International FFA Convention.
The principals from the Washington County schools also gave reports on the progress made on their yearly plans, which were presented in August before the school year began.
Principal Peggy Adams of Vernon Elementary School said that their goals are to achieve proficiency with an improvement in reading of five percent over last year’s score of 75 percent; improvement in math of three percent over last year’s score of 85 percent; improvement in science of 12 percent over last year’s score of 44 percent; improvement in writing of four percent over last year’s score of 80 percent, achieving proficiency of 3.5 or higher; and working for 100 percent proficiency in all areas in the next five years.
“We’re running a very tight schedule and have very little down time,” said Adams. “We’d also like to invite you to our Fall Festival, which will be held Oct. 22.”
Principal of Vernon High School Ruth McCrary said that her plans have remained the same since the first presentation.
She said that soon teachers would have an individualized review for their plans for each classroom.
“I believe that an individual plan should be made to fit the unique needs of each individual classroom,” said McCrary. “Then we will see where the student is lacking in skills and move on from there.”
Principal of Vernon Middle School Chris Beard said that the plan still remains the same for his school as well. Progress being made; the school wide anti-bully program is working well.
“We’ve got more cooperation out of students and teachers,” said Beard. “They’re showing each other much more respect since we’ve started; they’re very helpful towards one another as well.”
The Board also recognized National School Lunch Week.
