Activities at First UMC Chipley

CHIPLEY - First United Methodist Church Activities Scheduled for December include:

•Sunday Dec. 13 there will be a combine service at 10:30 a.m. Come listen to the  Christmas Cantata performed by the FUMC Choir.  This year’s cantata is “I Hear the Prophet Callin.”  It is the Christmas story from prophecy to fulfillment written and arranged by Pepper Choplin.  The original anthem evolves into a thematically unifying element, recurring in the form of very short solos and duets that alternate with a variety of inventive, original choruses.”Go Tell It on the Mountain” prepares the final chorus, in which choir and congregation join to sing “Joy to the World.”

The choir will be accompanied by Jimmy Miller on guitar, and musicians from Chipley High School: harp, flute, oboe, horn, mallet percussion and drums.  Come early for Sunday School at 9:30 and stay for this musical performance.

•Sunday Dec. 20 there will be a combine worship service at 10:30 a.m. Its the annual Children’s Christmas performance.  This year they will perform “Legacy of Love” by Katie Combs and arranged by Dave Clark.  It is the story of a recently widowed Christmas enthusiast, who lovingly points the children toward the bigger picture of Christ’s love as they discover how to minister to others. Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to come and discover for your self how to minister to others, The cast members are from our children’s department starting with a 3 year old and continuing into our junior and senior high youth.

•Thursday Dec. 24 at 5:00 p.m. the Christmas Celebration reaches its climax with a candle light service.  The youth will decorate the walkways with luminaries in preparation for this most Holy Night.  Pastor Jerry May will deliver the message detailing the true meaning of Christmas.  Communion will be served. Our communion is an open table, open to anyone who seeks to follow Christ Jesus.  All are welcome to come to the Lords table, regardless of Denomination or Affiliation.

Following communion, the lights in the stained glass sanctuary will be dimmed and each person will light their candle as everyone sings “Silent Night, Holy Night.”
