WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Washington County 2013 Relay For Life held the first Team Meeting of the New Year on Monday at Pattillo’s on the Washington-Holmes Technical Center Campus.

Steven Carter welcomed two new teams to the relay. Those teams were Walmart 2114 and First Freewill Baptist Church.

The goal for the relay this year is to raise $60K, we had $13,245.02 before the meeting on Monday night, at which there were several who turned in money. We are sill in need of seven more teams to make our goal of 30 teams. The goal for sponsorships started out as $6,500, we have surpassed that goal and have raised that goal to $10,000.

The committee would like to remind all the teams about the change in how the luminaries are working this year. Luminaries are for a donation of any amount and all monies raised on the luminaria bags will go to the team who sells them. The form still needs to be turned in when the donation for the bag is given.

Roger Whitaker talked to the teams about the CPS 3 Program. This is Cancer Prevention Study 3. To participate you must be between the ages of 30 and 65 and have no personal history of cancer.

For more information on the study email cps3@cancer.org or call 1-800-604-5888.

Jimmy Schweinsberg gave a $200 gift card to the team who brought in the most paid teams; there were two teams who each brought in one paid team. The tie ended by counting the money the two teams brought in, there was only $50 separating the two. The team that won the card to help in their fundraising efforts was Grace and Glory Christian School.

The next team meeting will be on Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Pattillo’s on the WHTC campus.

There was also a car show planed for April 13 at Relay. For more information on the car show see the Relay Events section in the paper.
