CHIPLEY — The Chipley High School Band will hold their annual Veteran’s Tribute Concert, slated for 6:30pm on Thursday, Nov. 8. This concert in the CHS Auditorium on Brickyard Road is free and open to the public.
The Chipley High School “Spirit of the Tiger” Marching Band participated in the annual Florida Bandmasters Association District 2 Marching Band Assessment at Bay High School in Panama City on Oct. 27.
Each band was evaluated in the areas of Music Performance, Marching & Maneuvering, and General Effect. The judges in each area rated each band’s performance on a 5-point scale ranging from “Superior” to “Poor.” The CHS Band performed their “The Sound of Music” field show and was rated Superior by judges.
The FBA Music Performance Assessment is equivalent to the FCAT for music programs and is divided in two major assessments during the school year. The Marching Band Music Performance Assessment in the fall and Concert Band MPA in the spring. Each MPA evaluates each school band program against standards of excellence in each performance area.
According to CHS Band Director Richard Davenport, this year’s results confirms a tradition of excellence at Chipley High School, making this the 20th consecutive year the band has been rated Superior at FBA District Marching Assessment.
Drum Major Julia Veit, Band Captain Morgan Locke, and Guard Captain Denise Spracklen lead the 62-member “Spirit of the Tiger” Band on the field.
