CHIPLEY — A Wausau man died Friday when his 2002 Ford Mustang crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.


CHIPLEY — A Wausau man died Friday when his 2002 Ford Mustang crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.



Ronald Chris Cook, 51, of Wausau was killed in the accident, which happened on County Road 279, 555 feet south of Swindle Road.



The passengers in the second vehicle, a 2012 Kia Sorento, were both injured.



The driver of the Kia, Helen J. Chambers, 68, of Caryville was taken to Bay Medical Center and was reported as being in critical condition. Her passenger, Noma Hartfield, 77, of DeFuniak Springs, was listed as seriously injured and was taken to Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.



According to the report, Cook’s Mustang was southbound when it entered the northbound lane, striking the left front of the Kia. Both vehicles spun in a counterclockwise direction, with the Mustang coming to rest facing north on the southbound lane of County Road 279. The Kia came to rest facing south on the northbound grass shoulder of County Road 279.



All the people involved were wearing their seatbelts, according to the report. No charges were reported.
