BONIFAY ó A Ponce de Leon man died Thursday in a two-vehicle accident in Walton County. A Crestview man was also seriously injured, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Charles Bruce Johnson, 64, of Ponce de Leon was driving east on County Road 181C in his 2004 GMC Envoy when his truck drifted onto the southern shoulder as it entered a curve, according to the report.

Douglas Alan Sanders, 35, of Crestview was entering the same curve from the opposite direction driving a 2006 Chevrolet Surburban.

According to the report, Johnson overcorrected, causing his SUV to spin as it reentered the roadway, crossing into the oncoming lane and striking Sandersí truck.

The impact caused Sandersí Chevrolet to roll over onto its roof, coming to a rest upside down and facing west on the northern shoulder of the road.

Johnsonís SUV came to a rest upright on the northern shoulder facing northwest, north of the point of impact.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Sanders was taken to Bay Medical Center with serious injuries, according to the report.

A passenger in Sandersí vehicle, Sonny Wayne Smith, 38, of Jacksonville, was also injured. It is not reported to which hospital, if any, Smith was taken.

Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the report. Both Sanders and Smith were wearing seatbelts.
