CHIPLEY – the Washington County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to keep the county millage rate at 8.9195 Wednesday morning in a special meeting.

The Commissioners had been presented with a millage rate of 9.21 on Thursday but the board decided to discuss the matter further at a special workshop held on Monday then decided the matter on Wednesday with no discussion.

Commissioner Todd Abbott also presented the board with a budget that he had balanced. “We took a look at the budget, and I had conversations with Dallas Carter, David Corbin, the sheriff, the property assessor and the tax collector,” he said. “We were able to balance the budget without raising the millage rate.”

The balanced budget also retained the positions of human resources director and computer technology person, two positions the board were looking at doing away with in order to balance the budget.

“I’d like a chance to look this over before you present it to the board,” Commissioner Lynn Gothard said. Chairman Alan Bush agreed.

The board will meet again at 9 a.m. on Aug. 22.
