The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Andrew Antonio Townsend, 32, of Geneva, Ala. on burglary charges on the evening of June 30 at the Stateline Liquor Store in Westville.

WESTVILLE — The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Andrew Antonio Townsend, 32, of Geneva, Ala. on burglary charges on the evening of June 30 at the Stateline Liquor Store in Westville.

According to the report the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Stateline Liquor Store in Westville and the caller said that his wife had been murdered and that was inside the store hiding from the killers.

When deputies arrived they noticed that the front glass door had been shattered, Townsend was hiding behind the counter and was taken into custody without resistance, according to the report.

According to the report an investigation revealed that Townsend had broke the glass door by throwing a rock into it, squeezed into the store, took a bottle of liquor, called 911 about his wife being murdered and began cutting himself with a knife.

When deputies arrived Townsend threw the bottle of liquor at a light and was arrested shortly after, according to the report.

With the assistance of the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office, Holmes County deputies found Townsend’s vehicle located in a wooded area near the state line and continued the search for the woman Townsend was saying was his wife and later that evening she was found alive and well in North Alabama, according to the report.

Townsend was transported to Holmes County Jail and is being charged with burglary, criminal mischief and filing a false police report.

“This subject appeared to be under the influence of synthetic drugs or having a psychotic episode,” said Sheriff Tim Brown. “His behavior was clearly that of a subject experiencing an altered reality and is a danger to themselves and anyone around them. I’d also like to thank the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Police Department for their assistance.”

Brown requested that anyone with information regarding illegal activity call 850-547-4421 or reportacrime@holmescosheriff.org.
