CHIPLEY — Northwest Florida Community Hospital has been named one of America’s top 5,000 businesses by Inc. Magazine.
The Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth over a four-year period. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of the starting calendar year, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales, according to the internet.
The 2012 list is currently on the magazine’s website, www.inc.com.
“There are approximately 5,200,000 registered businesses in America. Each year over 676,000 new business are registered,” NFCH President/CEO Pat Schlenker said in an e-mail on Tuesday.
“For the past 30 years the organization Inc. has recognized the top 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America.” Schlenker said he received a letter from the Inc. Magazine’s editor-in-chief announcing that Northwest Florida Community Hospital earned the position of 2,969 on the 2012 Inc 5000 list.
“To me that is almost an impossible achievement,” Schlenker said.
The entry on Northwest Florida Community Hospital shows that the hospital has posted a 3-Year growth of 74 percent and reported 2011 revenue of $62.4 million.
According to the magazine, the hospital had $35.9 million in 2008 revenue and has added 95 jobs in the previous three years.
The hospital was founded in 1951 and has 212 employees. NFCH ranks 243 in the health industry list, according to the magazine.
NFCH is a 59-bed health care facility that includes a 25-bed critical access hospital, a 34-bed long-term care facility, and a home health agency. If offers a wide range of services, including family medicine, surgery, podiatry, cardiology, sleep studies, counseling, and lab services.
Businesses making the list have to be U.S.-based, privately held, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of Dec. 31 of the last year measured. Revenue in the initial year must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in the most recent year must have been at least $2 million.
The Inc. 500 is an annual list of the 500 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S., introduced in 1982. The Inc. 5000 is an expansion of the Inc. 500, which ranks the country’s top 5000 fastest-growing, private companies and also features a special ranking of the top 10 percent of the list as the Inc. 500.
“We are so proud and honored to have been recognized as one of their fastest-growing private companies, “ Schlenker said.
“That achievement could not have been possible without the contributions made by our outstanding and dedicated boards, medical staff, 270 employees, the Washington County Chamber, and a very supportive community,” he said.
“In short as a small rural hospital we have been blessed and will be forever grateful for that,” Schlenker said. “It’s definitely another great day in Washington County where thousands live like millions wish they could.”
