On Saturday, March 2, the Vernon High School’s JROTC’s Drill Team participated in the Area 11 Drill Meet. They met at Vernon High School at 7 a.m., and left for Chipley High School, where the Drill Meet was being held. They competed against six other schools; Baker, Chipley, East Gadsden, Holmes County, Liberty County, and Tate High Schools. Vernon’s Drill Team competed in three events; Male/Mix Armed Squad Regulation, Male/Mix Unarmed Squad Regulation, and Male/Mix Color Guard. They practiced hard in anticipation of this competition, holding practices three days a week, all lasting until at least four o’clock. The cadets that participated were: Cadet Greg Andrews, 1SG Destiny Brady, SSG Kody Carromero, SFC Nathan Dunn, SSG Paige Pope, COL Carolyn Poppell, Cadet Jalyn Steele, Cadet Cody Strickland, and Cadet Colby Thompson. The Drill Team placed third in the Male/Mix Armed Squad Regulation, and fourth in the Male/Mix Color Guard. We thank our cadets for their hard work, diligence, and determination. We also encourage them to continue their efforts for improvement.
