BONIFAY — A Bonifay man was arrested on armed robbery charges after being identified, according to a Bonifay Police Department release.
Clayton Kyle Clemmons, 41, of Bonifay was arrested in connection with charges of a controlled substance and armed robbery on the evening of March 5.
According to the release, the Bonifay Police Department arrived at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on State Road 90 in Bonifay after they received a call of an armed robbery at that the pharmacy.
Witnesses described the suspect as having a long gun, possibly a semi-automatic rifle, that he stole two types of controlled substances, which included alprazolam (Xanax) and hydrocodone (Lortab) and that he fled west in the eastbound lane of State Road 90 in a white SUV.
The Bonifay Police Department then received a call of a vehicle matching that description speeding down Brock Avenue heading east.
Clemmons was identified “based upon several facts learned in the investigation,” according to the release. The Holmes County Deputies then went to his home on Chance Road and took Clemmons into custody and seized the stolen medication along with several firearms, one of which is suspected to be used in the armed robbery.
Clemmons was transported to Doctor's Memorial Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Holmes County Jail where he awaits his court appearance.
“The quick response of all involved and almost immediate identification of the suspect helped prevent a bad situation from getting out of control,” said Bonifay Police Chief Chris Wells. “I greatly appreciate all of the assistance rendered by the Holmes County Sheriff's Office as well as the Holmes County EMS and Bonifay Fire and Rescue in today’s events.”
